Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai (TCE Madurai) was established in 1957 by the philanthropist and industrialist Late Shri Karamuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar in an area of 143 acres in a natural atmosphere located near Thirupparankundram, the outskirt of Madurai. TCE Madurai is funded by both the central and state governments and also by the management. However, it was granted autonomy in 1987 to decide its curriculum and administrative matters.

For UG courses at TEC Madurai: Seven specializations under the B. Tech programs are offered at this institution. Admission for these courses, candidates must have passed 10+2 in the Science stream for eligibility and they have to go for TNEA counseling for selection.
