Shanmugha Arts Science Technology & Research Institute (SASTRA), is located in Thanjavur in an area of 232 acres in a serene atmosphere. It was initially established as Shanmugha College of Engineering in 1984 in Tiruchirappalli and was affiliated to Bharathidasan University. It was the first university in Tamilnadu elevated as a deemed to be university and renamed as SASTRA in 2001.
