Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Higher Education, Srivilliputtur (KARE Srivilliputtur) was started as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering in 1984 by Kalasalingam and Anandam Charities in Srivilliputtur, Virthu Nagar, Tamilnadu. It was established to give technical education to downtrodden people in remote rural areas. In 2006, it was declared as a deemed university by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India. In 2007-8, KARE started functioning.
