Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation University, generally known as K L College of Engineering was established in 1980-81 by Er. Koneru Satyanarayana and Er. Koneru Lakshmaiah at Vaddeswaram adjacent to Buckingham canal near Vijayawada, AP in an area of 100 acres full of lush green. It was elevated as an engineering college (Autonomous) in 2006 by the University Grant Commission (UGC). In 2009, it was recognised as a deemed university by UGC, Ministry of Human Resources Department (MHRD), and in 2019, UGC MHRD declared this institution as a Category 1 Institution.
