Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) was established in 1956 in Coimbatore Tamilnadu in an area of 26 acres in a green serene atmosphere as a private institution by the V. Rangasamy Naidu Educational Trust devoted to the cause of promoting technical and scientific education. As Sri. V. Rangaswamy Naidu is the founder and Prof. P. R. Ramakrishnan is a founder principal, it got a good foundation that has spurred its growth since then. In 1987, it was awarded autonomous status and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, and its courses have been recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education. It was affiliated with the University of Madras and Bharathiyar university, however, since 2001, it has been affiliated with Anna University.
