The National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) was established in 1967 in Silchar, Assam to produce trained manpower for expanding Indian industries. However, it did not function immediately due to some problems; after ten years of its establishment, it finally started functioning and started academic programmes in 1977. In 2002, the Government of India accredited it with a deemed university status due to its excellent performance, and in 2007, this institute was declared as the Institute of National Importance due to its significance in northeast parts of India.

How to Get Admission at NIT Silchar

For UG courses at NIT Silchar: Students who passed or appeared in the +2 exam can take Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and should get minimum JEE Main scores/rank required at this institution. Admission is given through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
