National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) was established as a Regional Engineering College in 1961 in Rourkela, Odisha, India in a spacious area of 650 acres in a serene sylvan atmosphere to produce quality engineers and scientists in graduate and post-graduate in various branches of engineering thereby giving the trained manpower to the industries in the nation where the Rourkela steel plant had been set up before. The Institute has been modernized by two foreign collaborative funding agencies under the Indo-UK REC project and World Bank cum Swiss Development Corporation IMPACT project. Later, it was elevated to a deemed university under the name of NIT Rourkela.
