National Institute of Technology Patna (NIT Patna) was initially started as Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1886 in Patna Bihar with the establishment of a leader survey training school that eventually transformed into Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1924. This made this institute the 6th Oldest Engineering Institute of India. The graduate-level curriculum was later elevated to the postgraduate level in 1978. In 2004, the Bihar College of Engineering was elevated as the National Institute of Technology Patna. Besides this, it was declared as an Institute of National Importance in 2007 and has been granted a fully Autonomous Status by MHRD, Government of India. The Institute has also been declared as a Centre of Excellence to impart high-level education training, research, and development in science, engineering technology, and humanities.
