National Institute of Technology Patna (NIT Patna) was initially started as Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1886 in Patna Bihar with the establishment of a leader survey training school that eventually transformed into Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1924. This made this institute the 6th Oldest Engineering Institute of India. The graduate-level curriculum was later elevated to the postgraduate level in 1978. In 2004, the Bihar College of Engineering was elevated as the National Institute of Technology Patna.
