National Institute of Technology Hamirpur (NIT Hamirpur) was initially started as a Regional Engineering College (REC) in 1986 by a joint and cooperative venture of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh in Hamirpur Himachal Pradesh in an area of 320 acres in a placid atmosphere surrounded by pleasant pine trees. At the time of inception, the Institute had only two departments i.e, Civil and Electrical Engineering having an intake of 30 students in each department. In 2002, the Government of India declared REC Hamirpur as the status of Deemed University and upgraded it to the National Institute of Technology, and then declared an institute of national importance by an act of the National Institute of Technology Act 2007.

It is the biggest cultural extravaganza in north India where enthralling dance choreographies, music performances, concerts, dramatics, national-level competitions, and numerous cultural events with the dell of the pastoral white peak mountains and the placid small-town environment leave no stone unturned in making the festival an unparalleled celebration of culture, education, and competition. Besides these, it celebrates the event titled ‘rediscovering our roots’ to reminisce and appreciate the cultural roots of India. NIMBUS is the annual technical festival celebrated at this campus where students from different branches come together to form a team and conduct technical workshops and learn and share their knowledge, due to this, students gain knowledge about all sorts of technologies with hands-on experience, and spread it around the campus for all other students to learn.
