Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad is located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. It was started as a 17th Regional Engineering College (REC) by a joint venture of the Government of India (GoI) and Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1961 and was an associated college of the University of Allahabad, which is the third oldest university in India. In 2000-02, it was affiliated to UP Technical University which has 45 years of achievements in technical education. MNNIT was the first institution that started an undergraduate degree course in computer science and engineering in India in 1976, and it started postgraduate programmes in 1970. In 2002, it was declared as deemed university and renamed as National Institute of Technology from REC and fully funded by the GoI. In 2007, the GoI declared this institute as an Institute of National Importance.
