Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) was initially started as Moulana Azad College of Engineering (MACT) at Government S. V. Polytechnic campus in 1963 in Bhopal Madhya Pradesh with 120 students and seven faculty members. It was named after renewed educationist and scholar Maulana Abdul Kalam, then Union Education Minister. In 1963, it was shifted to a partially completed new campus. However in 2002, it was elevated as a deemed university and was declared as a National Institute of Technology (NIT) and renamed as MANIT, and fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Government of India. Besides this, it was declared as an “Institute of National Importance” under NIT act in 2007.
