The Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) is one of the youngest second-generation IITs in India established in 2008 at Bihta near Patna, Bihar, in a sprawling area of 501 acres with a serene green atmosphere on the banks of river Ganga. It was established by an act of the Indian Parliament with the view to outreach the country in engineering science & technology.

In the year 2021, IIT Patna spent Rs. 22 crores as a capital expenditure, of which 32.24% spent on procuring books, journals and e-resources for library, significant amount of its funds, that is, 54.2% spent on buying new equipment and software for quality research, 1.46% on engineering workshop, and rest of the 12.1% fund spent on creation of capital assets and other expenditures. In 2020, the capital expenditure was Rs. 67 crores, and in 2019, it was around Rs. 20 crores.

In 2021, IIT Patna spent over Rs. 78 crores as an operational expenditure, of which 49.58% spent on paying salaries to professors and supporting staffs, a significant amount of its funds, that is, 48.87% spent on maintaining academic infrastructures, and 1.55% spent on conducting Seminars, Conferences and Workshops. Spending as an operational expenditure was Rs. 77 crores in 2020 and Rs. 70 crores in 2019. So, spending as an operational expenditure has been increased in 2021 when compared with the last two years.

As IIT Patna has a good facility and good infrastructures, it filed 12 patent applications in 2021 and got 1 and it filed 6 and 3 patent applications in 2020 and 2019, respectively, however, none was awarded either.
Sponsored Projects
IIT Patna has many distinguished professors and research scholars in its faculty, so, many big companies are willing to sponsor IIT Patna, and therefore, it received Rs. 11.9 cores through the 46 sponsored research projects from 19 companies in the year 2021. In 2020 and 2019, it received Rs. 8 and Rs. 9.36 crores through 48 and 82 sponsored research projects from 11 and 24 companies, respectively.

How to Get Admission at IIT Patna

For UG courses at IIT Patna: Students who passed or appeared for +2 exam can take Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and should pass the minimum cut-off mark set by JEE IIT Patna in JEE advanced exam.
