Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi – 2021

Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) was established in 2009 in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh in an area of 538 acres with 200 acres on flat ground and remaining is on the slope of the mountain. However, it was administered from IIT Roorkee and was registered as a society in Uttarakhand, and the building of the transit campus was handed over by Himachal Pradesh to IIT Mandi. In 2010, Prof. Timothy A. Gonsalves joined as the Director of IIT Mandi and took charge from Prof. Saxena, Director, IIT Roorkee who had overseen the administration of IIT Mandi before.

IIT Mandi spent Rs. 21 crores as capital expenditure in the year 2021, of which it spent 37.78% on the library for acquiring research journals, books and e-resources, 45.38% spent on buying new equipment and software, 5.8% on engineering workshops and 11.04% on capital assets creation like build a new building and maintaining the infrastructures in this institution. It spent Rs. 88 and Rs. 58 crores as capital expenditures in 2020 and 2019, respectively. Spending as a capital expenditure is low in 2021 when compared with the last two years.

IIT Mandi spent Rs. 78 crores as an operational expenditure in 2021, of which it spent 62.17% on salary for professors and supporting staffs, 37.73% spent on maintaining academic infrastructures in the institution, and the remaining 0.1% on conducting Seminars, Conferences and Workshops at this institution. Exodia – Annual cultural festival is being celebrated for three days which reflects the Himalayan Culture. It was started in 2012.

Aakarshan – Inaugural festival for freshers to make them familiarize with the institution’s functions and facilities.

Rann-Neeti – Annual sports fest started in 2013 where all colleges are being participated. Games like cricket, football, volleyball, etc., are being organized.

Accessibility

IIT Mandi is in Himachal Pradesh, so there is no direct train for that place, however, they can reach Chandigarh by train and flight which is 221 kms away from Mandi. From there they can reach IIT Mandi by cabs or bus.

How to Get Admission at IIT Mandi

Studying science and technology is the dream of most students, but to make that dream real, we need a good institution. When we think about a good institution, IITs come first. So, here are the procedures to get admission to IIT Mandi:

For UG courses: Students who passed or appeared for the +2 exam can take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and should pass the minimum cut-off mark required at this institution in the JEE advanced exam.

For PG courses: Students who passed bachelor degree or M.Sc., or appeared for the final exam can take the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and should pass GATE to get admission to IIT Mandi, however, if the students from IITs graduated with a CGPA of 8.0 or above, need not take GATE exam.
