Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU Baroda) a state university was initially established as Barada College in 1881 in the then princely state of Baroda, now Vadodara Gujarat, in an area of 275 acres in the perfect placid atmosphere, however, the idea of starting a science institution was put forth by Dr. Jackson the Principal of Baroda College in 1908. Since then, the process of establishing Baroda University had been taken forward by the Government of Baroda, due to this, the first commission was set up in 1909 to explore the possibility of setting up a university, and in 1916, the education policy of the state was reviewed and one of the members of the committee Shri S.V. Mukharjee advocated establishing the university. In 1919, another committee comprised Late Principal Clarke, Prof. Wiggery, and the then Education Minister of State N.K. Dixit came forth the idea of establishing the university, and then it requested Prof. Sheshadri of the Banaras Hindu University to draw a plan to set up the Baroda University. Finally, it was established by Pratap Singh Gaekwad in 1949 by the wishes of grandfather Maharaja of Baroda Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad iii.
