Delhi Technological University (DTU) initially started as Delhi Polytechnic in Kashmiri Gate, Delhi to cater to the needs of Indian industries with theoretical and practical knowledge by the recommendation of the Wood and Abott committee in 1938. In 1952, it became Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) and was affiliated with the University of Delhi and started giving degree courses. Till 1962, the college was under the direct control of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. In 1963, the administration of the college was handed over to Delhi Administration. It had been under the administrative control of the Department of Technical Education and Training, Government of NCT Delhi, and for academic purposes, the college had been affiliated with the University of Delhi since 1952. It shifted its campus in 1996 at Bawana Road, adjoining sector 17, Rohini, Delhi 42 in an area of 164 acres with lush green, and in 2009, the DCE became DTU.
